- In a microwave-safe mug, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
- Add the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the mug. Stir with a fork until just combined and there are no dry spots, being careful not to overmix.
- Stir in the chocolate chips, if you are using them.
- Microwave on high for 60-90 seconds (1 to 1.5 minutes), or until the cake is set but still slightly moist in the center. Cooking times may vary depending on your microwave's wattage.
- Let cool for 1 minute before enjoying directly from the mug.
Notes
For best results, do not overcook the mug cake, as it can become dry. A slightly gooey center is usually ideal.
